Ok, reftex got so bad that I could no longer insert citations, I had
to manually switch buffers, search the entries, and kill/yank the keys
into place. This became extremely tedious with my literature review. I
finally lost my patience, so I saved my .emacs, purged the debian
emacs packages, and installed emacs22, ess, auctex (and slime) from
their respective sources. Emacs22 was no problem at all, installed in
less than 10 minutes. Auctex was also very straightforward. Slime and
ESS took a little longer, as I had to figure out how the emacs
load-path works.

All is well and the new version of Reftex works flawlessly.

Thanks,

Tyler
