Taken from the "FreeType Glyph Conventions" document:
"The grid is always oriented like the traditional
mathematical two-dimensional plane, i.e., the X axis
from the left to the right, and the Y axis from
bottom to top."
so these are cartesian coordinates..
Please read the whole document, it has tons of information
that are critical to a correct use of the library.
The FT2 Tutorial should help you too..
