It might be necessary to have another organization "sponsor" you for the
short term anyway, regardless of obstacles that come up.  The IRS generally
takes 9 months to approve an application for NPO status.  Mozilla
Foundation applied for theirs in July this last year, and still don't have
it.  Currently when you donate to the Mozilla Foundation, if you want it to
be tax deductible, you actually have to give it to the OSAF and earmark it
for Mozilla.  The OSAF gives it to the MF periodically as grants.
