Mark's goal was never to target just the Hurd. In fact, he was
interested in creating an implementation that would run on Linux, the
Hurd or any other operating system that glibc supported.
The reason that the linux threads implementation is not used is that:
firstly it is Linux specific and secondly the FSF does not have the
copyright on the work.
