I've coded up a simple kfile_plugin for EXR, which is the approach used under 
KDE (htttp://www.kde.org) to provide meta-data display. I've previously done 
the MIME type file for EXR. The reason why I did this first (rather that the 
image viewing capability which is probably what people are more interested in 
seeing :-), is that it allows me to debug the configure time / build time 
checks with a simpler problem.

In any case, the typical output is shown in the attached screenshot. This is 
available to a number of tools - in this case it is a "Properties" dialog for 
a common EXR file. I would appreciate any feedback on the information people 
would like to see, or suggestions on the best way to categorise / organise 
it. For example, I can easily add additional groupings (rather than a single 
"Technical Details" group) if that would help.

This should be released as part of KDE 3.3 - unfortunately I'm much too late 
for the imminent KDE 3.2 release.
