As far as your question goes, I can tell that the recent RULE
installer formats what you tell it to format, nothing more. I have it
on a laptop where it did not touch the existing NT partition. You need
a separate partition for it, but there is nothing RULE specific about
it: the normal rules for installing two OSes on the same PC apply. The
only difference here might be that you might have to set up the dual boot
procedure (LILO, GRUB, whatever) manually.

Of course, backup whatever you have, etc. etc..
