[Savannah-hackers] savannah.gnu.org: submission of eMonkey

From: webmaster
Subject: [Savannah-hackers] savannah.gnu.org: submission of eMonkey
Date: Sun, 09 Dec 2001 17:05:38 -0500

A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden

Sven Herzberg <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: eMonkey
System name: emonkey
This package wants to apply for inclusion in the GNU project

eMonkey will be a GNOME/GTK GUI for the edonkey file-sharing client, which is
only available (for linux) as a console-client. The GUI will connect to the
so-called \\\'client-core\\\' via TCP. Then it\\\'s possible to use the edonkey
file-sharing system in a user-friendly way.

eMonkey will be written in JAVA using the GTK2.0-bindings from
java-gnome/java-gtk (http://java-gnome.sourceforge.net; LGPL) in the version of
0.8.x (which is not available at present). It will run on a \"Free Software
JAVA implementation\" (quotation from Loic Dachary).

We will \'deliver\' the software as source-code to be compiled by the gnu java
compiler (gcj-3.0; GPL) in a way the most c-programs are delivered (sth. like
automake/autoconf; maybe selfmade if auto???? doesn\'t work well with java).

There is no source available yet, as the java-bindings and the GTK2.0 libs are
still developed.
