Go for Cairo?

As the libart that Skencil 0.7 uses has numerical bugs
for a long while and does not look like it is maintained anymore,
Skencil is on the latent need of a new graphic render library.

The best candidate I know is Cairo.

Anybody got experiences with Cairo?
What would be need to do to take it up in Skencil?
