Hmm, what if I use a somewhat odd font? (I'm pretty sure I don't in
this example since I've tried hard to stick to the basic set that is
available in all PS printers, but still). Will pdf2swf use some magic
to select the best fit? That is good enough for me - as long as I get
my spaces... ;-)

Me too... In the mean time I'll just list what freetype version I have
installed on my RHEL/CentOS systems (they are standard):

freetype-2.2.1-19.el5
freetype-devel-2.2.1-19.el5
