This feature will *not* removed in the 1.11.x series.  It will be removed
in 1.12 only.

Instead of asking for this, could you try whether the version of multilib
support in 'contrib/' (from the automake master branch) works for you?  If
not, what are the problems with it, or the improvements you'd like to see?
As usual, comments and patches are welcome.
