I have read it, and I don't see anything that would make the
proprietary code into a derivative work of the GPLed code.  Maybe one
could argue that the end user linking the two pieces of code is
violating the GPL since the GPLed code can be used without the
proprietary code, but that would be hard to detect and enforce.

On the contrary, I think a court decision one way or the other would
be very useful to clarify the issue.  But I don't actually have any
proprietary code, nor do I plan to.
