According to some, the law does not necessarily give you that much
freedom, even over your own work.  I hope those people are wrong; I
don't want the FSF to have that much power over others' use of their
code mostly because I don't want Microsoft, etc., to have that much
power.  I also haven't seen any statute or case law supporting the
view of those people; but then, I haven't asked any lawyers.

Law need not be rational.  Should be, yes, but need not be.
