Ah, found the answer to this one in archives.
The trick was to make sure 'nm' tool is found
during configuration of gnustep-base.

Also, something useful I learned when starting
a GNUstep app...--GNU-Debug=NSBundle provided
more detailed logging for dynamic bundle loading.
