The OpenStep specification isn't holy or anything. It's just a document written by some people a decade or so ago.

Just because it's good doesn't mean anything outside it is automatically bad.

No, it doesn't mean that, but GNUstep is based on these OpenStep specs, so this document does matter in such situations (whether this is good or not) and as such is more than "just a document...".
