Bazaar is not vastly slower nor cumbersome. It may have been that
long ago (like a year or 2), but that's not true now. Perhaps you
should try again the latest version.

Its availability with bzr is very reasonable, so I think there's no
significant problems to fix here, for Emacs as a project.
