I've committed a very initial version of the GUI library. It's currently not 
enabled in the build system; you need the patch attached to this message to 
use it.

Currently, the GUI library only has a GTK frontend. Both OpenGL and Cairo 
backends are available (through --enable-renderer={opengl,cairo}). The plugin 
works with either one. Menus and mouse events should work.

Please note that gtkglext is still a build requirement (but not a run-time 
one!) even if you select the cairo renderer.

Rob has written this library; I've built upon his work. He also provided 
initial versions of other frontends (SDL and FLTK). Those will be committed 
at a later date.

Eventually, I hope to move all the OpenGL initialisation code into a new class 
somewhere in backend/.
