OK.  Now the question is: what sort of inefficiencies will we see with
tla dealing with that many changesets?

I can imagine a few:

 * Filesystem performance during scans of a directory.
   (What filesystems on Linux eliminate this problem?  reiser?  ext3?)

 * Network performance downloading all that info

 * Time it takes to update .listing files (on archives that use them)
