How do I notice this bug ? Does the bootstrapper bail out or do I notice it in
the client ?

The bootstrapper bails out and the logs state that it couldn't find role gnumed_vN. I am running the bootstrap-latest.sh script. On a fresh db it bombs out going form gnumed_v2 db to gnumed_v3 db.
