Maybe Mac ships different defaults. As far as I remember I did not have to 
touch this file on the Mac at all. If you must you can copy the content from a 
Debian installation. that should work. If you have problems send us the file 
or request a file from us.

I never had to touch this file either.

This is non-fatal. psql -l will give you all the information you need.

Nah, not really. Mac os is BSD , not Linux. 

As far as once you install this version it works out of the box. If not let us 
know what errors you encounter.
