[zile-devel] Zile 2.1

I have already emailed about my ideas for the long-term future of zile, but here are some ideas about the medium term.

I am currently aiming for a 2.0 release ASAP, because it is far too long since a proper stable release of zile. As per my last email, I believe I should be able to do this in January, unless serious problems emerge before then.

I then plan to make a 2.1 release, which will contain all the rest of the medium-priority TODO list that I would really like to have in a basically useful editor. These are:

X1("name-last-kbd-macro", name_last_kbd_macro, "")

* Regex pattern matching for replace functions.
* Allow search and replace not to follow case (case-fold-search,
  case-replace).
* Add the ability to rebind keys within zile, and in the prefs file.

I am not too bothered about the rest, but I think the above is, in order of importance as given above.

If anyone would like to suggest other items (especially those already in the TODO list) which are more important, or argue that those I've listed aren't that important (in particular, I'm not too bothered about key rebinding) then I'm happy to listen. Of course, code submissions count more than mere votes!

The list above is intended to let me release 2.1 by March or so, assuming I have a reasonable amount of time to work on zile between now and then. After that I can take stock of what I want to do next, which will probably follow the road-map I previously outlined, going towards a potential zile 3.0, with Unicode support. After that, if I'm still interested in working on zile, I will probably fork it and pursue other goals than the current ones, and I will hopefully leave zile in a state where it is both useful and maintainable for years to come.
