For a single vertical line, I suspect this would be overkill – Unless
we officialy include it alongside the other articulation marks.

Yes it can.

It does now (I've updated the snippet to demonstrate this).

I think this would be a terrible idea. All articulation marks are
centered with the note head. As a musician, I'd be terribly confused
if I were to suddently encounter an articulation mark that's centered
with the stem.

If anyone can find a proper (documented) name for this "vertical line"
articulation, I think we could consider adding it to the default
LilyPond distribution.
