Hi David,
I have studied the manuals and tutorials, but I can’t figure out where to start a new score of mine.
I can only guess as to what your set-up is, but: You need LilyPond itself and a suitable editor for lilypond files. Any old text editor will do, but many people prefer Frescobaldi which provides a very convenient environment for hacking LilyPond code.
Do you have those two things?
