Frankly that sounds like the company should budget to do something about
it since it is increasingly going to be a drag on the workforce.  If
there isn't the talent in-house, then by hiring someone to do it.

Realistically, this is going to be a recurring problem.  While there may
be a point to stay a while with one stable version, 8 years is sort of
ridiculous for ongoing work.

I mean, I fondly remember the large party at my place releasing 2.16 but
nostalgia only goes so far...
