what does the server say at the end of the transfer?
recently I often get something like
"monotone: fd 6 (peer 127.0.0.1:36779) write failed, disconnecting"
which leads to errors like yours - seems like the connection isn't properly
cleaned up and some packets are stored in the db that shouldn't be.
