FWIW, all of OpenEXR builds and functions properly with the free express
versions of Visual Studio. I believe you can find tutorials on subbing
the command line free version of the msvc compiler into a build system
otherwise using mingw. I'm not the person to ask about that though :)

Hi James,

I don't have VS, this is (originally) a unix project and uses mingw to
build on windows. I work in a university so I could get a copy of VS
licensed to my machine, but I don't do all the packaging myself. I
make the windows binary as a zip and other people build installers
around them. I don't think I could guarantee that they have kosher
copies of VS.

It also looks like I have to include an installer with a click-through
EULA, which seems like a pain. Or maybe I don't, I'm really not sure.

The project is VIPS, if anyone is interested:

We're about to release a new stable version and OpenEXR support is one
of the new features.

John
