I am having similar problems. On a large group, it
will crash when all the headers are downloaded..

Then the other problem is that it marks all new
messages as read.  Which makes it useless for
browsing.

It will only do it on a particular group not all of
them.  The rest seem to load fine.

I am using a AMD64 machine on Gentoo linux.  Not real
sure how to track things down or what would be helpful
to you.
