> I'm awfully sorry, I haven't noticed this before: the LPPL is
GPL-incompatible, so even though you can release your package under the GPL
(adding exceptions for using with your GPL-incompatible dependencies
<https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLIncompatibleLibs>), but your
users won't be able to combine your package with other software released under
the GPL (without those exceptions). Your package will not be fully
GPL-compatible for them.
I see, and was myself unaware of this. But as LaTeX itself is LPPL 1.3c
licensed (https://ctan.org/pkg/latex) and every single LaTeX package depends
on it, it ensues that no LaTeX package at all can be fully GPL-compatible. I
must confess that I was unaware of this terrible consequence as well for even
though I take the burden of freeing ekdosis from dependencies on LPPL-licensed
pakages, it will still be dependent on LaTeX... As a consequence, contrary to
what I was thinking, there will be no fully GPL-compatible solution for
producing critical editions of classical textsm in the many years to come,
thus leaving this entire cultural field in the hands of the non-free world.
So, it is sad news and a sad day I must say.
Can I still apply for hosting here or do I have to stay out?
Thank you for your very informative reply.
