I have routers with open firmware – DDWRT, OPENWRT or TOMATO. I have many 
routers, all already reflashed and with installed optware. Routers are not a 
problem.

I was very happy with the Sipwich operating on the LAN. We had of course 
problems with external addresses so I did not have opportunity to test it on a 
public IP. It was working very good locally in a building and over bridged VPN 
to another location.
When I obtained IP addresses I just pulled ethernet cable from the one switch 
and I plugged it to another. That’s it. Then small reconfiguration, phoned 
registered in to the externally exposed Sipwich but it was impossible to make a 
call.

There is nothing more I can say because I spent days on changing configuration 
of everything. At the same time P2P I mean IP to IP SIP calls are possible 
through public SIP providers and WITHOUT proxing packets. For example Jitsi 
client has very verbose information about IP addresses so the same CsipSimple.

I don’t know but when I use public non proxing SIP I still can drive around the 
town, my IP changes from time to time and after some seconds of silence I have 
voice again. Sometimes I must just call again but nothing more.

Hairpinning or not hairpinning...
My router is only my router but people want to talk to each other outside but 
still using Sipwitch as the registrar.

Maybe it is my misunderstanding but what does it men that Sipwich has built in 
some kind of NAT traversal?
If I understand it right the Sipwich should acquire information that 2 
extensions are on the same lan and instruct them to talk P2P.

Example:
Sipwich:123.123.123.123/24----internet-----My_ROUTER:123.123.123.124/24--NAT:10.0.0.0/24--and
 here 2 extensions .100 and .101
Of course above doesn’t work. Phone rings but I can’t answer the call.

I tried everything. Mobile networks with public Ips, nated IPs, LAN public IPs 
and Sipwitch simply does not work. If it is on public or nated IP along with 
extensions then no problem.

For example OSTEL is a proxy but Ekiga makes magic and phones talk to each 
other and from everywhere.
