a new problem with speechd cvs

Hi,

This morning I checked out a fresh cvs copy to check the autoconf stuff 
reported.

I could not confirm this but found a very bad behaviour of the cvs 
version of speechd.

It seems that speechd need at least two byte to output anything.
E. G. spd-say -lde "a"
does not output anything.
spd-say -lde "a " 
does work.
Please have a look on this because this is a new problem which was not 
in the debian package of
speech-dispatcher 0.6.2

BTW. what about the ibmtts module?
Is ssomeone working on it regarding the reported bugs???
