I don't know if it will be any help to people but a while ago I hacked
up drone to replace its use of ftp and telnet with scp, rsync and ssh.
I'm afraid it is rather fragile, and may need tweaking when used on
different systems, but for what it is worth...

If anyone has tried to use Xdrone, they probably noticed that the
installer doesn't work. (It was installing the application package in /
rather than in /Library/Xgrid/Plug-ins/Xdrone.xgplug).
It has been fixed.
