Hey, Jeff:
I'm Iowa MA 1983. Go hawks.
Looks to me as though your administrator has installed it incorrectly.
In the Swarm Faq (http://www.ku.edu/~pauljohn/)
we have a list of questions and advices on things like this. We need to
know what kind of linux, what install steps were taken, etc. The
install from source code is not simple and unless system administrators
exert some care, the install does not end correctly.
If you are using an RPM based Linux, I have packages for
Swarm-2.2prerelease that you should run instead of 2.1.1. If you want
me to try to find out what is wrong on your system, you could create a
user account and email me a password.
In case you want to try to bug shoot, here's where I'd start.
The error indicates that the dynamic loader does not find the swarm
library. It could be the library got installed somewhere off the beaten
path. If you find out where that location is, add that directory to
your library path (say, /usr/local/Swarm/lib) like
# export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/Swarm/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
and then try your make. It could be as simple that.

I am an assistant professor at the U. of Iowa trying to start up some
research in complex systems (preferrable implementing Swarm). I have had
our system administrator install swarm-2.1.1 on our Linux lab. However,
when I attempted to run some of the swarm models (tipping, axelcult,
etc.) I get this error:
./tipping : error while loading shared libraries: libspace.so.2 : cannot
open shared object file : no such file or directory
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
