   I suggested the translator would be on /usr, not on /, and /bin,
   /sbin, /hurd, etc. would be symlinks on /usr/bin, /usr/sbin,
   /usr/hurd, etc.

This adds IMHO an silly layer that isn't needed.  Cleaner to just have
the translator sit on / and be done with it.
