Just one case where, when you exit the editor, your text
  - is either completely empty, or
  - has only short lines (shorter than the width of the "___" minus 1 or 2),
*and* the prompt still happens,
would be enough to answer my question with "yes".

If nobody finds the wrapping useful, then we should get rid of it.
At this point I'd still like to keep it there, until we can find out
what goes wrong with it for you!  The answer to that problem may (or may
not) give a clue about the other problem, i.e., the crash.
