If you have the de.mo in /usr/local/share/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/ and running /usr/local/games/pingus doesn't work, there's something strange on your system.
There is, then:address@hidden /usr/local/games $ ls -l /usr/local/share/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/
total 32 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 29061 Apr 9 22:44 pingus.mo address@hidden /usr/local/games $ LANG=de_DE /usr/local/games/pingus ERROR: setlocale LC_MESSAGES failed! I get the message "ERROR: setlocale LC_MESSAGES failed!" This may be because I haven't installed support for German on my system; now, which files is it looking for and missing when it reacts that way?
(Is there any convenient way to debug gettext issues?)Not really I fear. Sometimes even parts of the translation are not shown for a reason unknown to me.
Bummer. I'll continue being mystified, then. /Erik
