Was my previous reply to this clear enough? A template is just a denemo
file with no music in it.
Using Staffs->Add Staff->Add Staff for Instrument is now setting a fresh
MIDI channel for the instrument when it is added. A piano (being two
staffs) will get a single channel assigned.I did this. I opened up that template like you said. On playback view it had the clarinet sound. I tried to modify the template for classical guitar. I could hear classical guitar when I selected playback in the playback menu. In playback view it was using clarinet voice still. I changed the midi instrument name and I made sure to name the instruments something with one of these names:
