The distro im building is designed for gnustep. Not intending to troll here, or start another OS-related flame-war, but why base it on Linux? I guess this is more of a general question, but why not focus on a more 'original' clone and base it on Darwin? There are a couple of aspects, that IMHO would make Darwin the more obvious choice, its MACH kernel for one thing. Yes, I know there are reported problems with running GNUstep on Darwin, but those could be overcome if there's enough focus on fixing them. Besides, with respect to Apple going Intel soon, there might even be an advantage regarding porting of OSX/Cocoa software since a lot of libraries are native to Darwin, eg. IOKit. Main reason is that im not familiar with darwin. I have tried to use mach before. But at that time i was using minix and had a problem bootstrapping mach. I did not have any of the bsd's since i did not have broadband 3 years ago and then somebody gave me a slackware cd. Perhaps i should try again now. I have always had a strong "Beyond Unix" bias but for now I only want a platform where i can focus on the userland issues and experiment with it. I have experimented with oskit and oskit mach and several research kernels and i was going nowhere. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using the GPG bundle for GNUMail iD8DBQFDfZ3CyihxuQOYt8wRAhbPAJ47+y6kwPtCclRwCXBPGZ/DQoHRQwCggZk9 +b96EqKPbEIq7hRsPzaTkLw= =VLl4 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
