xterm does on Fedora Core 6, but it didn't with earlier FC versions.
With every Linux distro I have tested for 2 years, gnome-terminal and
konsole show utf-8 by default.
Btw UTF-8 seems to be displayed in a funny way in MacOS X terminal: a
user reported on lilypond-user-fr that "é" was displayed like "'e".
