It wasn't a request, it was a suggestion.  And this morning I realized
it will cause a complication: the scrollbar will also be there in the
browser, but doesn't change when scrolling through a long list.  This
would mean that the scrollbar would need to be made to work also in the
browser...  Complications that I don't want.   And I don't think I want
a scrollbar in the browser at all, because in most directories all files
will fit on the screen and the scrollbar would just be a useless burden.
