Hi,

Got where was the problem

the SPIpins (miso/mosi) are NOT used as
the ICP pins (all other AVR's do). The pins to use are PDI and PDO.
(see datasheet 25.7.1)

Fell in a trap ....This has cost me a few days to find out!

AT90CAN works with :--
1> USBASP & AVRDUDE
2> Also works with PonyPROG parallel port programmer.
