I meant ../configure --with-prefix=/usr/local --use-dots-in-magic-name

not making the patch ifdefed.That would sure suck :)

That would mean where now is "{arch}" hardcoded there would be an expanded
macro.
So there's no need for encoding/decoding overhead or runtime overhead of
checking another file for what the {arch} name is.
So it's a per user thing, and the code could remain as simple as now.
Althought Colin's code must have meant his code to have other uses as well I
think.
