I'd suggest building the latest snapshot instead.

The autoconf stuff in Swarm tracks changes made to the various
Java runtimes that are available, and so the snapshot would
be more in sync with the way JVMs are packaged now.  Also the snapshot
will build with GCC 2.96 and 3.0, and 2.1.1 won't.  2.1.1 predated them.
