downloaded gorm from here https://github.com/gnustep/gnustep-gorm . installed & ran from shell... but still have the same problem...

So do you open gorm from the shell without opening any files and you get that error?

Have you tried uninstalling your version and compiling 1.2.18 from source?

PS: the 16bit vs 32bit was just a hint for your black areas in some interface parts, I hope they are gone no? It had nothing to do with crashes.
