Happy you liked it - have a look at Pod Uptime:
http://podupti.me/

There are many Diaspora pods, choose the one that suits you best. The
joidiaspora.com one is just one of many. Most of the rest do not need
an invite.

Once you're there, I'd love to get in touch - rysiek@joindiaspora.com
here. ;)

Yes. This being used in some part as a "gateway drug" to the rest of
the FaiF world.

I'd say "promotion of Free Software in general"; it's more vague and
general, and thus harder, but nevertheless that is what is the clue
now, with all the "cloud computing" stuff creeping in.

The OS is, unfortunately, more and more irrelevant these days. This is
good in some small part (as you can use whatever to do what you
need/want to do); but very bad in other (users' data on proprietary
servers, in proprietary systems, with no way to export them
conveniently). As I wrote already, vendor lock-in 2.0.

Indeed.

Yes. And I would see an IdeaTorrent installation for use in that:
http://www.ideatorrent.org/

Me and my organisation is interested in helping, maybe coordinating
this in some part. I had this idea a long time ago already, and I am
quite eager to finally start bringing it to life.

However, we do not have loose funds, free hands and not much free
infrastructure. We might be able to host the bare minimum (website,
ideatorrent, wiki, maybe a mailing list should we need it), but we
would need to have some help in administrative tasks.

Go for it. Please send a link our way. We might also want to use a pad
to help with editing by many people at the same time, for example:
