Could be the other way round, sure. Is that really relevant?

What seems to have happened is that between Octave-7.1.0 and 7.2.0 there has
been a chance that broke the way that network drive letters on some large
company networks can be added to the path. My Octave-7.1.0 and 7.2.0
installations at work are based on the ftp.gnu.org downloads.

I just reported my experiences. If it can be fixed, nice. But maybe it can't -
I've already indicated some of the magic I see when delving down into the file
systems at work.
I'll try a few more things today; maybe look at file encodings, or saving
files to the network, etc.
