I suspect the gremlins are playing fast and loose with the MEPIS
repositories. I tried to download through apt-get today and it went
like a dream. I now have the latest version up.
Incidentally, MEPIS uses its own and the etch Debian repositories, and
there is some advice to beware some further instability in the etch
repositories on the MEPIS website. I guess that's what happened.
For anyone using etch I suggest that they download the sarge .deb of
libpcre and libpcre-dev from the Debian repositories and install via
dpkg
Will test it to death and then come back! :o)
