Thanks for the reply.

I updated /etc/resolv.conf. The first error gone.
now i am getting new error : cvs [checkout aborted]: connect to cvs.savannah.gnu.org(199.232.41.69):2401 failed: Connection timed out

Ping is hanging. when killed it returns:
--- cvs.savannah.gnu.org ping statistics ---
140 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 139672ms

traceroute output is like this:
4656-Jagadees:/home/jag/projects/gnu/CVS_Root# traceroute cvs.savannah.gnu.org
traceroute to cvs.savannah.gnu.org (199.232.41.69), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets
 1  192.168.5.254 (192.168.5.254)  0.640 ms  0.616 ms  0.616 ms

 3  * * *
 4  * * *

I am behind a proxy server. Will it affect? I added  http_proxy environement variable too. But no result.

Please help.

Hello.

It is really strange. The command that you issued to make the checkout is
correct. You may be having problems with the DNS resolution.

Try to make a ping to cvs.savannah.gnu.org Do it work? If not, try to
execute traceroute
 cvs.savannah.gnu.org
