OK... This is all a bit new to me. I've obtained the latest version from CVS.
There's no configure script, so I ran aclocal then autoconf. I got the
following errors:

% aclocal
% autoconf
configure.in:15: error: possibly undefined macro: LT_AC_PROG_SED
If this token and others are legitimate, please use m4_pattern_allow.
      See the Autoconf documentation.
configure.in:30: error: possibly undefined macro: AC_LIBTOOL_WIN32_DLL
configure.in:31: error: possibly undefined macro: AC_PROG_LIBTOOL

Are these an issue or can I ignore them? I get a whole load more messages with
automake... (in particular one asking for swarmconfig.h, which it couldn't
find) Is it worth sending you them?

libtool should have already installed the needed pieces into the
distribution. It won't be _your_ libtool, but the distributors (e.g. mine).
You do need libtool if you want to install from CVS, which is actually
what I'd suggest you do, along with autoconf and automake.
Binaries are the preferred way to get stability, but of course we
haven't provided Solaris binaries since back in the day.

In this case, Emacs isn't loading shared libraries itself, it is just
running that `findImp' program in a subshell, iterating over all of the
types & methods in Swarm.
