Good point. That's a feature that the available Java compiler/runtimes
provide that the current GNU Objective C compiler/runtime does not.
But there are features that the GNU Objective C environment provides
that Java doesn't. These include:
1) natural dynamic typing
2) features like configurable message forwarding and class posing
3) a portable and mature C compiler, and associated performance benefits
4) easier, tighter integration with external C and Fortran libraries
Also, as a Lisp devotee, I am skeptical that 100% pure anything is tenable
in the long run.
It's also worth remembering that Java is just a programming language.
It's the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) that makes cross-platform portability
possible. Other languages can be targeted to the JVM:
