Just grab the X server and work as if in a more conventional Unix environment. Once people know that the whole thing works at some level then there will be stronger motivation to polish the GUI libraries (Tk & BLT). GCC works now, and that was the hard problem.
I am tempted to support that statement: Aqua/Tk can wait. I can help on Aqua/Tk, actually, but I won't start doing so until I have a basic starting point, i.e. a compilable swarm. As I said, gcc3.1 mostly compiles; Tk, HDF5 and various other key libraries are in fink; we're not far from a compilable swarm on Mac OS X! (Notice I did not say running.) I won't attempt that myself, because snags at this point are likely to be highly swarm-specific, and I do not know swarm enough to solve them efficiently. Though if you have a macOSX side question, throw it my way and I can try to find an answer. (I'm not an expert there either, but I do have some clues by now.) Such a bootstrap effort would do a lot to draw the energies to refine the system.
My 2 cents. Marc-Antoine ================================== Swarm-Support is for discussion of the technical details of the day to day usage of Swarm. For list administration needs (esp. [un]subscribing), please send a message to <address@hidden> with "help" in the body of the message.
