Hi Jean:
Good news. At the moment I am deeply involved with calculations on a parallel
machine with Debian amd64 etch and the scp-linked desktop is etch i386. I can't
upgrade to sid at the moment, although I'll have to upgrade soon or later. As
soon as I can, I'll attempt on the i386 desktop  etch.
